Better Paws, Better Performance: Impact of Paw Lesion Scores

Not only are chicken paws a lucrative commodity, they serve as an indicator of animal welfare during audits and can be a direct indicator of bird performance.

By understanding the conditions that cause paw lesions to form in the first week of the bird’s life, producers can also gain an understanding of what, if anything, can be done to improve scores which should be taken between days 12-16 when lesions are easily visible. Follow the process detailed below to assess birds and understand paw outcomes.
