Trisha Marsh Johnson, DVM, Senior Manager, Veterinary Services for the Jones-Hamilton Agricultural Division, recently presented “Poultry Medicine: Life on the Cutting Edge” as part of the Maryland 4-H Veterinary Science Program that included high school-aged 4-H members from four states in the northeast.
Johnson was thrilled to participate in the event as she understands the potential the 4-H broiler project and 4-H poultry judging has for youth. Feedback following the event led Johnson to comment that, “the youth enjoyed hearing about an area of agriculture and veterinary medicine that was entirely new to them. I believe it was also encouraging for the 4-H’ers to see someone who had been a 4-Her just like them achieve success in agriculture, in no small part due to the foundation that was laid by their 4-H participation many years ago.”
