Reducing Emissions
Is Good For All Of Us

Reducing Emissions by Reducing Fuel Use is Good for the Bottom Line

By trapping ammonia in litter, poultry house ammonia emissions in the environment are lowered. However, the positive environmental impact of PLT® use goes far beyond binding ammonia.

Impact of PLT on CO2 Emissions

The Sustainability Research Group at the University of Toledo evaluated the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions from PLT application in poultry house operations. Reductions in CO2 emissions were found in two areas:

  1. Lower energy use over a 6 week grow-out from reduction in heating fuel and use of ventilation electricity
  2. CO2 impact from the production and distribution of PLT

Less Energy

Application of one ton of PLT reduced propane consumption by 400 – 625 gallons on average and saved 4,350 kW of electricity over a 6-week growout.

Fewer Emissions

The proper application of one ton of PLT reduces CO2 emissions by 16,200 pounds in winter and 3,100 pounds in summer over a 6 week grow-out.

Life Cycle Assessment of PLT

The process of sourcing, manufacturing, packaging, distributing and applying 1 ton of PLT generates 700 pounds of CO2.
