pH and Waterline Management for Poultry: Tips you need to know

The pH of water in the nipple lines is important as this is the water the birds will be drinking.  For most applications, the pH at bird level should be between 3.5 to 4.0. To check pH at this level and ensure optimal PWT water acidifier usage, follow these 4 easy steps:

  1. Use a dye in the stock solution to help ensure that the PWT® has filled all of the lines completely and has reached the end of the house.
  2. At the last nipple, collect a small amount of water into a clean container and carry the sample to a location outside the house to test.
  3. Either outside or in the anteroom, check the pH of the water using a pool test kit or litmus paper to make sure that the birds are receiving the proper amount of PWT®.
  4. If the pH is above a 4.0, the PWT® will not work as effectively to acidify water. If the pH is below a 3.0, then you are using more PWT® than is necessary and can adjust your stock solution dose as needed.
